The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s five-nation tour as a major diplomatic breakthrough, describing it as the beginning of a “new era” in India’s global role, particularly in strategic partnerships with African and southern nations.
Addressing a press conference, BJP national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi outlined the key takeaways from the visit, which included stops in Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, Brazil, and Namibia, and participation in the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro.
Key Highlights:
- Firm Stand on Terrorism Recognized at BRICS
Trivedi termed the BRICS condemnation of the recent Pahalgam terror attack in its joint declaration as a “diplomatic success” for the Modi government.
“PM Modi clearly stated that perpetrators and victims of terror cannot be equated. This strong stance has been accepted globally,” Trivedi said.
- Economic Cooperation with Resource-Rich Nations
He emphasized India’s agreements with Ghana and Namibia, rich in rare earth elements, copper, uranium, and lithium, as crucial for India’s economic and technological future.
- Deepening Cultural and Diaspora Ties
The BJP MP also praised the strengthening of cultural bonds, especially in Trinidad and Tobago, where a large portion of the population is of Indian descent.
“The Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago traces his roots to Buxar, Bihar, which adds an emotional and historical dimension to the relationship,” he noted.
Trivedi also referenced Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s principled stand at the recent SCO meet, where India refused to sign a joint statement that excluded mention of the Pahalgam attack.
Prime Minister Modi returned to India on Thursday morning, concluding a week-long diplomatic mission that the BJP described as a strategic, cultural, and economic triumph for India’s foreign policy under his leadership.
